Under the cooperation with the board of education in Kyoto City since January of 2006, “Nurturing by food curriculum” has been held as a domestic program at certain elementary schools in Kyoto City.
The purpose is that, “creating the curriculum to help students realize the importance what to eat through Japanese cuisine and for them to learn the zest for living by themselves”.
5th and 6th graders are targeted, and 3 different themes such as “taste education“, “foodstuff education” and “cooking education” will be taught to them to have them more interested in eating. |

Aspect of foodstuff education |
| The program has been held at 5 different schools such as Ninna Primary School, Nishijin Elementary School, Shinmachi Elementary School, Shugakuin Elementary School and Fushimi Itahashi Elementary School in January through March, and some instructors of the Japan Culinary Academy attended it as assistants or observers. There were a variety of methods depending on the schools, however, students seemed to enjoy themselves with unusual lessons. |

Aspect of cooking education (practical work) |
This program is aiming to expand nation-wide in the future, and it is planned to perform centered on the teachers in charge (class teacher, home economics subject) instead of teaching by our staff of the Academy.
We, at the Academy, are considering of making the program more efficient, verifying the results.
However, there was an opinion from teachers at schools that the certified cook should actually show the skills of cooking in front of the students, so we will consider of these issues including the above matter.
We also considering of expanding the schools adoption of the curriculum, creating curriculums for lower graders, junior high and high school students, and introducing through mass communication in the future.
We believe that Japanese future will be created by children, so that this nurturing by food is one of the important educations, which we, at the Academy, would like to stress on this point in the future, too. |
